Abstract
Conjunctivitis, one of the most common causes of the red eye, is a frequent presenting complaint to general practitioners. It may be further classified as either infectious or non-infectious in origin. Non-infectious causes include allergies and various irritants. Infectious causes may be further subdivided into bacterial and viral pathogens. Both forms are generally self-limiting.1,2
